Intrepid Food Exploration

Exploring the world through food is my passion. Whether I am abroad or just down the street, I believe that each ingredient, each dish, has a story to tell, and I am all ears.

At my preschool graduation I announced my aspiration to become a baker. This was actually my second career choice, selected only after I realized that I could not, in fact, grow up to be a monkey. Years later, and after earning a degree in Human Development from the University of California, San Diego, I reset my sights on the culinary world. In 2009 I graduated from the Baking and Pastry Arts Program at the Professional Culinary Institute, now the French Culinary Institute, in Campbell, CA. While the science and artistry of food excited me, my inquisitive self pondered the stories behind the recipes and techniques I was learning. I became fascinated by the possibilities of food – not just to nourish our bodies, but to transform a moment. I wanted to know more about the impact that culture, history and technology has on the foods that we eat.  It was this hunger to explore the world through the lens of food that lead me to discover that the next best thing to experiencing amazing food, is writing about it.
